Incredibly, the criminal act was executed right in front of active police personnel who were visiting the neighborhood to investigate a month-old petrol bomb attack on the very same businessman’s property.
The bold incident has triggered heavy panic in the locality and raised serious questions regarding the efficiency and alertness of the capital city’s security grid.
Audacious Crime Stun Neighborhood Residents
The victim, identified as a well-established local businessman residing on Suresh Das Lane in Town Pratapgarh, had been waiting for police intervention since his house was targeted in a terrifying midnight petrol bomb attack exactly a month ago. CCTV footage from that initial incident had clearly captured two young men hurling explosives, but local authorities had failed to provide any breakthroughs or security deployment since then.
Today, when a police team finally arrived at the site to review the case files, two bike-borne snatchers pulled up to the spot. Right before the eyes of the visiting police officers, they aggressively snatched a heavy gold chain from the businessman’s neck and sped away through the narrow lanes before the personnel could react.
”This is the absolute absolute nadir of our state’s law and order machinery. A family is terrorized with petrol bombs, and the police take an entire month to show up. And when they finally arrive, miscreants have the audacity to commit highway robbery right in front of their faces! The citizens of Agartala are no longer safe even inside their own front yards under this compromised system. We demand the immediate suspension of the negligent officers on duty, a white paper on the rise of drug-fueled street crimes in Sadar subdivision, and the swift arrest of both the bomb-throwers and the snatchers,” a senior CPI(M) leader stated to reporters at the spot.
CPI(M) Delegation Rushes to Spot; Alleges Total Security Collapse
Upon receiving updates regarding the dramatic robbery, a high-level political delegation from the CPI(M) East Agartala Area Committee, led by senior leader Shri Amal Chakraborty along with prominent block workers, rushed to the businessman’s residence. The leaders interacted with the shaken family members and joined the local residents in launching a spontaneous protest against the local police outpost’s sluggish approach.
The opposition front pointed out that the rise in such brazen daytime snatchings across the Sadar subdivision is directly linked to unregulated localized narcotics networks, where desperate drug-addicts resort to violent street crimes. The local residents warned that if the East Agartala police administration fails to track down the fleeing snatchers using regional traffic cameras within the next 48 hours, the community will be forced to launch a sit-in demonstration blocking the main roads.
