SIMNA | July 7, 2026: In a significant political development ahead of the upcoming rural institutional transitions, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suffered a notable organizational setback in the Simna assembly constituency today. Altering the local structural balance, a total of 251 voters from 66 indigenous families officially dissolved their primary memberships with the BJP to join the principal regional powerhouse, the TIPRA Motha Party (TMP).
A mega political joining program was organized at a regional block venue in Simna to formally onboard the new inductees into the party fold.
Leadership Welcomes Churn in Grassroots Support
The mass defection was heavily supervised by top regional leadership, highlighting the strategic importance of the Simna block. The newly inducted families were formally welcomed into the party by:
- Shri Brishaketu Debbarma, local Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Simna and current Minister of State (MoS) for Industries & Commerce, Government of Tripura.
- Shri Rabindra Debbarma, senior Member of the District Council (MDC) for the Simna-Tamakari constituency and Chief Whip of the TIPRA Motha Party in the TTAADC.
- Prominent block-level youth presidents and regional zonal officers.
The leaders draped the joining voters with traditional TIPRA Motha flags, signaling their official absorption into the party structure.
”The mass joining of 66 families today is a clear indication that the grassroots population remains firmly committed to the core vision of our party. People are recognizing that sustainable development, land rights, and socioeconomic preservation for the indigenous communities can only be protected through dedicated regional representation. Even while maintaining programmatic alignments at higher legislative levels, our focus on grassroots empowerment remains absolute. We welcome these 251 voters into our family and assure them that their localized development grievances will be addressed with top administrative priority,” Minister of State and Simna MLA Brishaketu Debbarma stated during the program.
Strengthening the Regional Grid Prior to Local Elections
According to local observers, the shifting allegiance of such a large block of voters indicates a deeper structural consolidation by TIPRA Motha in the West Tripura tribal belt. The families who switched sides expressed frustration over the slow execution of localized welfare schemes and drinking water infrastructure projects under the previous local monitoring teams.
MDC Rabindra Debbarma addressed the gathering, urging the new party members to actively set up village-level development committees. The goal is to maximize the outreach of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council’s (TTAADC) specialized socio-economic programs, ensuring that the benefit matrices directly support the farthest households in the sub-divisions.
