AGARTALA: Hitting back strongly against opposition allegations surrounding the demise of Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankhar, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) convened a press conference at the party headquarters today. Senior BJP leaders accused Opposition Leader Jitendra Chaudhury and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman of playing “irresponsible politics of confusion” to derail public trust.
The press briefing was addressed jointly by BJP MLA Ranjit Das, General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, and State Media In-Charge Sunit Sarkar.
Condolences and Rebuttal on DGP Anurag Dhankhar’s Demise
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of senior IPS officer and DGP Anurag Dhankhar, MLA Ranjit Das firmly rejected opposition claims regarding administrative negligence or friction.
- Strong Administrative Bond: Das emphasized that the Chief Minister maintained cordial relations with DGP Dhankhar, noting that the two had engaged in constructive official discussions just days before his tragic demise.
- Condemnation of Opposition Narrative: The BJP leadership condemned opposition attempts to exploit the top cop’s death for political mileage, reminding the public of past instances where Left leaders openly insulted IPS officers in Belonia and elsewhere during their tenure.
Searing Attack on Sudip Roy Barman and CPIM
Firing a broadside at Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman and CPIM State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, MLA Ranjit Das criticized their opportunistic political posturing:
- CM Ambitions & Frequent Party Switching: Das remarked that Sudip Roy Barman “dreams of becoming Chief Minister” while repeatedly switching political affiliations for personal gain.
- Unnatural Alliance: He labeled the 2023 CPIM-Congress alliance as “shameless,” recalling the violent history between the two parties where workers and leaders were targeted during earlier regimes.
- Democracy Intact in Tripura: Rebuffing opposition claims of a non-democratic environment, Das pointed out that the very fact that opposition parties are freely holding daily rallies, sit-ins, and press briefings proves that democratic space is fully protected under the present government.
Opposition Reminded of Past Corruption Scandals
The BJP state leadership called out the opposition for raising sensationalized rumors—such as claims regarding skeletons, the assault of an Army Colonel, or arms recoveries—to distract the public. Das challenged the Left and Congress by recalling major corruption scandals from previous administrations, including the Ginger Scam, Rose Valley Chit Fund Scam, Bishalgarh Block Scam, and past political assassinations of ministers and officials.
The BJP leaders concluded the press meet by assuring citizens that the state administration remains focused on transparent governance and rapid economic development, urging the public not to fall for misleading political propaganda.
