AGARTALA | July 7, 2026: In a major boost to decentralized urban governance and civic infrastructure, the Chief Minister of Tripura, Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, today formally inaugurated the newly constructed Ward No. 40 Office of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). The high-profile inaugural ceremony was attended by top municipal administrators, public representatives, and a large gathering of local residents.
Joining the Chief Minister on the central stage were the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Shri Dipak Majumder, the Deputy Mayor, the local Ward Corporator for Ward No. 20, and several senior engineering officials of the urban development department.
Bringing Civic Administration Directly to the Citizen’s Doorstep
The establishment of the permanent ward office reflects the ongoing smart city initiatives aimed at making administrative services hassle-free and accessible for the expanding population of the capital city. The modern facility will act as a centralized single-window counter for the neighborhood, managing vital civic processes including the registration of births and deaths, processing localized property tax reviews, approving trade licenses, and coordinating municipal waste management operations.
During his extensive inspection of the new facility, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reviewed the digitized billing counters and instructed the staff to maintain a citizen-centric, transparent service matrix.
”Our state government is systematically working to transform Agartala into a world-class smart city, and the true foundation of a smart city lies in efficient grassroots civic administration. The inauguration of the Ward No. 40 office today is another concrete step toward bringing governance directly to the citizens’ doorstep. Local residents will no longer have to travel all the way to the central AMC headquarters for basic certificates, utility payments, or to log civic complaints. Under our double-engine model, we are not just building concrete structures; we are building responsive institutions that prioritize public convenience and accelerate urban development,” Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha stated during his address.
Mayor Outlines Comprehensive Ward Development Blueprint
Speaking at the event, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder highlighted the rapid transformation of peripheral wards over the last few years. He noted that the municipal corporation has prioritized water distribution pipelines, modern LED street lighting installation, and structural drain construction in Ward 40 and its adjoining sectors to completely eliminate water-logging issues during the monsoon.
The event concluded with the Chief Minister and Mayor handing over computerized municipal service records to several local beneficiaries, marking the official operational launch of the new administrative center.
