AGARTALA | July 8, 2026: Commemorating the profound legacy of one of the foundational figures of the state’s democratic movements, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) Sadar Divisional Committee today organized a voluntary blood donation camp at the Melarmath Chhatra Yuva Bhavan in Agartala. The specialized humanitarian drive was dedicated to the memory of Shahid Arun Deb, revered by the Left front as a pioneering hero in the historic struggle for the restoration of democratic rights in Tripura.
The event saw an overwhelming response from school, college, and university students across the Sadar subdivision, who queued up to contribute to the state’s medical repositories amidst ongoing seasonal shortages.
Upholding Democratic Values Through Ideological and Social Service
The commemorative program was formally inaugurated by senior leadership who offered floral tributes at the portrait of Martyr Arun Deb. Sharing the dais to guide the youth volunteers were senior Left representatives, including CPI(M) West District Committee Secretary Shri Ratan Das and SFI State President Comrade Pritam Debnath (Shil), alongside prominent division coordinators.
Addressing the young donors, speakers recalled the intense political challenges of past decades, emphasizing that the democratic freedoms enjoyed today were paved by the supreme sacrifices of student leaders like Arun Deb.
”Shahid Arun Deb’s life remains an eternal beacon of inspiration for the student community of Tripura. He didn’t just fight for student rights; he laid down his life defending the democratic fabric of our society against oppressive forces. At a time when public institutions are facing severe challenges, our student front is keeping his memory alive not through empty rhetoric, but through tangible service to humanity. Voluntary blood donation is the highest form of social solidarity. By stepping forward in such large numbers today, the youth of SFI are proving that they inherit both the political courage and the deep social responsibility of our martyrs,” CPI(M) West District Secretary Ratan Das stated during his address.
Overwhelming Turnout Bolsters State Blood Bank Reserves
To ensure smooth clinical operations, a specialized medical team from the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital managed the screening and collection units set up inside the Chhatra Yuva Bhavan. SFI State President Pritam Shil highly praised the prompt responsiveness of the freshman donors, noting that a significant portion of today’s voluntary contributors were first-time donors.
According to the organizational desk, more than 40 units of high-screened blood were collected during the single-day drive. The SFI state leadership concluded the event by distributing formal certificates of appreciation and medical refreshment packs to the participants, reaffirming that the student wing will continue to execute similar healthcare support camps across rural subdivisions throughout the monsoon season.
