AGARTALA | June 22, 2026: In a major push toward building a cleaner, sustainable, and eco-friendly capital city, a high-profile inaugural ceremony for a comprehensive Solid Waste Management initiative was organized today at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala. The event marks a significant step forward in modernizing the urban waste disposal and recycling infrastructure of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).
The development program was officially inaugurated by the Honorable Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr. Manik Saha, who attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest.
Modernizing Agartala’s Urban Cleanliness Infrastructure
The launch event witnessed a large gathering of municipal workers, urban planners, environmental activists, and local administrators. Sharing the dais with the Chief Minister were the Honorable Mayor of AMC and MLA, Shri Dipak Majumder, alongside senior urban development secretaries, corporators, and civic engineers.
The newly launched solid waste management roadmap introduces advanced scientific segregation systems, systematic door-to-door collection cycles, and modernized processing units to efficiently manage the daily municipal waste output of the capital.
”Managing solid waste scientifically is no longer just an environmental option; it is an absolute necessity for public health and sustainable urban growth. Our government is fully committed to transforming Agartala into a model smart city. This initiative at Rabindra Bhavan marks the beginning of a streamlined ecosystem where waste will be segregated at the source and recycled efficiently. I appeal to every citizen to cooperate with the AMC to keep our neighborhoods clean and garbage-free,” Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha stated during his inaugural address.
Civic Body Outlines Key Implementation Goals
Speaking at the event, Mayor Dipak Majumder highlighted that the municipal corporation is deploying specialized bio-degradable and non-biodegradable collection bins across all wards alongside modern waste-transport vehicles.
The core objectives outlined during the inaugural session include:
- Source Segregation: Educating households and commercial establishments to separate dry and wet waste before disposal.
- Bio-Medical & E-Waste Tracking: Setting up dedicated channels to ensure hazardous waste materials do not mix with standard domestic garbage.
- Empowering Sanitation Workers: Providing advanced safety gear, health insurance modules, and technical training to the municipal sanitation workforce.
The formal ceremony concluded with the flagging off of a new fleet of waste management vehicles by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Mayor Dipak Majumder from the Rabindra Bhavan premises.
