AGARTALA: Amplifying the political heat across the state, the Communist Party of India (CPI) Tripura State Council organized a spirited protest demonstration today in front of its state headquarters, Junu Das Bhavan, in Agartala. The party raised two major demands: an uncompromised, transparent investigation into the unnatural death of Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar, and strong solidarity with the ongoing hunger strike in New Delhi demanding the immediate resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
A large number of CPI leaders, supporters, and youth activists assembled outside Junu Das Bhavan holding banners, flags, and placards, raising slogans against both the central and state governments.
Demand for Transparent Probe into Top Cop’s Death
Addressing the gathering, senior CPI state leadership emphasized that the sudden, tragic demise of DGP Anurag Dhankar inside his official chamber at the Police Headquarters has sent shockwaves throughout the region.
”When the highest police officer in the state loses his life under such mysterious and unprecedented circumstances within the security perimeter of the police headquarters, it strikes at the very root of public trust in administrative stability. A superficial or routine departmental inquiry will not suffice. The state government must ensure a comprehensive, independent, and high-level investigation to uncover the unvarnished facts,” the leaders asserted.
Solidarity with Delhi Hunger Strike
The CPI leaders also expressed firm solidarity with the agitation currently underway in the national capital, New Delhi, where activists and student-youth groups have embarked on a hunger strike seeking the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over key national policy and governance failures.
Protesting outside the state headquarters, the leadership declared that democratic movements against administrative irregularities and suppression of public rights will be intensified across all districts of Tripura in the coming days.
