AGARTALA: Seeking an impartial and thorough investigation into the sudden demise of Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankhar, a delegation of senior CPI(M) leaders visited Raj Bhavan today and submitted a detailed memorandum to the Hon’ble Governor of Tripura, Shri Indrasena Reddy Nallu.
The opposition party has formally requested a high-level judicial inquiry to look into the circumstances surrounding the top cop’s death, emphasizing the need for complete transparency.
Call for Transparency and High-Level Inquiry
The CPIM delegation, comprising prominent Left leaders and lawmakers, expressed their profound condolences to the bereaved family and the police force. They, however, raised concerns about the state’s initial handling of the situation and the public interest surrounding the death of a senior-most administrative official.
Key Demands Outline in the Memorandum:
- Judicial Probe: Immediate initiation of a judicial inquiry supervised by a sitting High Court judge or an equivalent high-powered independent committee.
- Preservation of Evidence: Ensuring that all necessary medical records, administrative logs, and related evidence are strictly preserved until the investigation concludes.
- Administrative Accountability: Assessing whether standard operating procedures (SOPs) regarding the safety, healthcare coordination, and administrative protocols for VVIP officials were adequately followed.
Leaders Urge Gubernatorial Intervention
Talking to media personnel outside Raj Bhavan, the Left Front leaders stressed that given the highly sensitive nature of the case, only a high-level judicial probe can ensure public trust and deliver unconditional transparency. They expressed hope that the Governor will exercise his constitutional authority to facilitate a free and fair investigation.
Earlier in the day, the CPIM also reiterated this demand during their state committee meeting and press conference, highlighting it as a crucial governance issue.
