AGARTALA | June 23, 2026: Intensifying its mass mobilization drive against the ruling dispensation, the CPIM East Agartala Regional Committee organized a major street-corner rally in the capital’s high-profile Banamalipur area today. The demonstration was staged to corner the government over its alleged failure to address escalating civic grievances, inflation, and public utility crises.
The protest rally saw a significant turnout of local party workers, trade union members, and residents who gathered to voice their growing frustration with the administration.
Government Absorbed in Self-Promotion, Alleges Amal Chakraborty
Leading the political charge from the front, senior left leader Amal Chakraborty launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration during his keynote address. He asserted that while the ordinary citizen is struggling to make ends meet due to a severe lack of basic amenities, the ruling party remains completely detached from reality.
Chakraborty claimed that public distress across the capital has reached an unprecedented high, with standard grievance channels completely failing to provide relief.
”Ever since this government assumed power, the common people have been pushed to the brink, facing a continuous onslaught of structural problems. From crippling inflation to collapsing public utility management, the struggles of the working class are being completely ignored. Yet, the BJP government shows absolute apathy toward these burning issues. They have no time or inclination to solve public grievances because they are entirely preoccupied with their own PR campaigns and political self-promotion,” CPIM leader Amal Chakraborty stated at the Banamalipur junction.
Left Front Demands Immediate Administrative Accountability
The regional committee formulated a series of localized and state-wide demands during the street assembly, vowing to escalate the agitation if immediate remedial measures are not initiated by the civic body:
- Civic Infrastructure Fixes: Demanding the immediate restoration of dilapidated inner lanes, drainage overhauls to combat monsoon waterlogging, and consistent drinking water supply across Banamalipur.
- Combating Unregulated Inflation: Urging the state food and civil supplies department to set up strict price-monitoring mechanisms in local retail markets to protect low-income consumers.
- Restoration of Democratic Spaces: Condemning the alleged intimidation of opposition voices and calling for a peaceful atmosphere ahead of the upcoming local body and Village Committee polls.
The program concluded with CPIM leadership reiterating that the party will continue to hit the streets across all subdivisions to act as a vocal shield for the rights of the common citizens.
