AGARTALA | June 23, 2026: With the onset of the monsoon season increasing the risk of waterborne vectors, a district-level launching ceremony for the “Stop Diarrhea Campaign-2026” was officially conducted today. The crucial healthcare program was held at the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Ward No. 39 Community Hall.
The extensive wellness initiative, designed specifically to safeguard child health and accelerate grassroots medical awareness, was formally inaugurated by the Honorable Mayor of AMC and MLA, Shri Dipak Majumder.
Mobilizing Frontline Health Workers for Zero-Mortality Target
The inaugural assembly served as a major convergence point for civic leaders, administrative planners, and primary healthcare workers. Sharing the platform with the Mayor were AMC Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, local Ward Corporator Alok Roy, senior officials from the State Health and Family Welfare Department, and a large group of local residents.
Significantly, a massive contingent of ASHA workers, Anganwadi activists, and students from the A.D. Nagar Higher Secondary School participated actively to drive the health message into individual households.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Dipak Majumder emphasized that diarrhea is entirely preventable and manageable through clean sanitation habits and timely medical intervention.
”During the rainy season, the vulnerability to water contamination and subsequent gastrointestinal infections rises exponentially, particularly among children. Our ‘Stop Diarrhea Campaign’ is an absolute priority module to ensure zero mortality across the municipal corporation boundaries. By equipping our dedicated ASHA and Anganwadi sisters with sufficient Zinc tablets and ORS packets, we aim to build a preventative health shield at every doorstep. We urge schools like A.D. Nagar H.S. to turn students into hygiene ambassadors within their families,” Mayor Dipak Majumder stated.
Strategy Formulated for High-Risk Municipal Wards
The health directorate has mapped out an intensive door-to-door deployment chart to run concurrently with the monsoon cycle:
- ORS-Zinc Distribution Corners: Setting up decentralized distribution desks at all urban primary health centers, sub-centers, and Anganwadi nutrition points to offer instant rehydration kits.
- Water Source Testing: Deploying technical teams to test and chlorine-treat public water supply reservoirs, community taps, and open wells in lower-lying urban settlements.
- School Hygiene Seminars: Launching structural school-level workshops focused on the mandatory practice of washing hands before meals and drinking only filtered or boiled water.
The inaugural event wrapped up with a practical demonstration of proper handwashing steps by health experts, followed by the symbolic distribution of health kits to mothers and school students by the attending dignitaries.
