AGARTALA, AUG 7: A brief one-hour spell of heavy downpour plunged several key locations in Agartala into severe waterlogging, throwing normal life out of gear across the capital city.
In response to the sudden urban flooding, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder conducted an emergency ground inspection to evaluate the drainage conditions and oversee relief operations.
Key Waterlogged Hotspots Inspected
- Paradise Chowmuhani: Water accumulation slowed down vehicular movement, prompting immediate clearing operations near major business hubs.
- Rabindra Bhavan Chowmuhani: The heavy run-off submerged road stretches adjacent to the cultural landmark, causing inconvenience to pedestrians.
- Joynagar Area: Known for low-lying residential sectors, the locality saw prompt AMC deployment to unclog primary drainage chokepoints.
During the visit, Mayor Majumder directed field officials to accelerate pump operations and ensure swift water discharge into primary canals. He reassured residents that the municipal corporation is actively monitoring low-lying pockets to prevent prolonged water stagnation during monsoon spells.
