AGARTALA: Political confrontation flared up in the capital city today as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a massive protest rally against Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party. The demonstration was called to denounce what the BJP termed an “anarchic and disgraceful” demonstration staged by Rahul Gandhi outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence in New Delhi.
The rally commenced from the BJP State Headquarters in Agartala, with hundreds of party leaders, youth activists, and supporters marching through key thoroughfares of the city while shouting fierce slogans against the central Congress leadership.
Escalation at Post Office Chowmuhani and Congress Bhavan
Tension peaked as the rally traversed through major city routes and assembled at the strategic Post Office Chowmuhani area, directly outside the Pradesh Congress Bhavan.
As BJP demonstrators converged near the opposition headquarters, an extremely tense standoff ensued between workers of both parties. Anticipating potential clashes, the police administration had already fortified the area with a heavy security grid, deploying armed personnel and placing multi-layered barricades around Congress Bhavan to keep the opposing sides separated.
On-the-Ground Reaction: Protesters Voice Anger
Speaking to the media during the rally at Post Office Chowmuhani, senior BJP leaders lashed out at Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party, accusing them of resorting to unconstitutional methods.
”The manner in which Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi tried to create chaos and anarchy by marching toward the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi is completely unacceptable and anti-democratic. It reflects sheer political frustration. The people of Tripura and the country will never tolerate such disrespectful behavior targeted at the highest office of the nation,” declared a protesting BJP leader at the site.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders monitoring the situation from inside Congress Bhavan condemned the BJP’s rally as an attempt at intimidation, demanding that the police administration maintain strict law and order and protect opposition premises from any provocation.
Police and administrative officials remain deployed on high alert along the stretch to prevent any disruption to public peace.
