AGARTALA | June 26, 2026: Intensifying the nationwide opposition movement for immediate gender parity in legislative bodies, the Tripura Sadar District Mahila Congress today organized a high-voltage demonstration and mass postal dispatch program in the capital. Raising the fiery slogan of “Nari Songrokshon Chalu Koro, Aaj-ee Koro, Ekhon-ee Koro” (Implement Women’s Reservation Today, Do it Now!), scores of women activists marched to the head post office to mail formal letters directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The strategic movement, executed under the umbrella of the All India Mahila Congress’s pan-India postcard campaign, demands the absolute implementation of the 33% women’s quota within the current structural strength of 543 Lok Sabha seats, vehemently opposing any administrative delays.
Frontline Women Leaders Slam Delimitation Roadblocks
The demonstration saw enthusiastic participation from sub-divisional Mahila Congress executives, block-level organizers, and youth wings. Addressing the gathering outside the post office, senior district leaders criticized the central government for allegedly keeping the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in cold storage by linking its execution to future delimitation exercises and census delays.
The leadership asserted that if the government truly respects women’s empowerment, it must introduce an emergency amendment proposal in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament to enforce the quota on the existing 543 seats immediately.
”We are not going to accept hollow promises or delayed timelines anymore. The women of Tripura and the rest of the nation are demanding their constitutional share in decision-making right now. Why must our representation be pushed back under the guise of seat adjustments or census delays? Today, the Sadar District Mahila Congress has sent a clear, direct mandate via the post office to the Prime Minister’s residence: implement the 33% reservation within the current 543 Lok Sabha seats immediately, and ensure a fair sub-quota for OBC, SC, and ST women. Our agitation will enter every village block if the government fails to act,” a senior Pradesh Mahila Congress executive stated.
Key Demands Lodged in the Mass Memo to the PM
The dispatched memorandum explicitly outlines the structural requirements demanded by the opposition’s women’s front:
- Immediate 543 Seat Allocation: Operationalizing the 33% legislative reservation without waiting for a fresh delimitation cycle, ensuring instant representation in forthcoming assembly and parliamentary polls.
- Inclusion of OBC Sub-Quota: Demanding a distinct and transparent reservation provision for women belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC), alongside existing SC and ST parameters.
- Decentralized Awareness: Launching block-level signature campaigns across all districts of Tripura to build massive grassroots pressure ahead of the monsoon parliamentary sitting.
The Sadar District Mahila Congress concluded the program by affirming that their postal and digital campaigns will remain intensely active over the coming weeks to ensure that the voice of Tripura’s women resonates clearly in the highest corridors of power.
