AGARTALA | June 26, 2026: Exploring structural challenges, power sector reforms, and employee welfare policies, the high-profile Eastern Regional Meeting of the Electricity Employees Federation of India (EEFI) was successfully convened today at the Chhatra Yuva Bhavan auditorium in Agartala.
The organizational summit serves as a vital forum to review operational friction and standardize advocacy movements across the eastern and northeastern power distribution grids.
Reduced Attendance Amid Operational Hurdles; 4 States Log Presence
The central working committee had initially planned for a robust congregation, extending official delegations to seven states across the eastern and northeastern belts. However, due to sudden logistical challenges, transit delays, and urgent localized departmental obligations, official delegations from four states managed to mark their active presence at the Agartala summit.
The present delegations successfully logged executive representations from the host state Tripura, West Bengal, Assam, and Bihar.
”Holding the Eastern Regional Meeting in Agartala highlights our resolve to unite power sector workers across challenging terrains. While unforeseen transit obstacles prevented three state delegations from physically reaching the venue, the core working committees of the four attending states have successfully drafted a unified resolution. We are addressing critical issues—ranging from the aggressive privatization of state electricity boards to ensuring concrete safety insurance models for our contract-bound ground linemen,” a senior EEFI central representative stated during the convention.
Key Resolutions Passed at the Agartala Summit
Despite the narrowed participation matrix, the attending state secretaries of the federation managed to pass a comprehensive action plan to streamline their upcoming labor campaigns:
- Resisting Corporate Privatization: Formulating synchronized legal and democratic protest layouts to counter the privatization of electricity distribution networks, pushing to safeguard public sector utility assets.
- Regularization of Contract Workers: Demanding standard pay structures, provident fund security, and mandatory regularizations for technical casual laborers who maintain the high-tension grid lines.
- Infrastructure and Safety Audits: Pressuring state-run power corporations to provide high-grade personal protective equipment (PPE) and establishing time-bound ex-gratia frameworks for on-duty casualties.
The regional working panel concluded the session by charting a decentralized outreach roadmap, confirming that the remaining three state units will be briefed digitally to integrate their local agendas into the final national charter of the EEFI.
