AGARTALA | July 31, 2026: Escalating their joint state-wide campaign against the systemic crisis in Tripura’s public education sector, a combined delegation representing four prominent Left student and youth organizations—the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Tribal Youth Federation (TYFI), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), and Tribal Students’ Union (TSU)—marched to the State Education Directorate (Shiksha Bhavan) today. The youth fronts gheraoed the headquarters compound and submitted a formal deputation containing a high-priority 5-point charter of demands addressed to the Director of Education.
The united protest rally drew hundreds of student activists and job-seeking youths who gathered outside Office Lane, raising loud slogans against acute teacher shortages, infrastructure deficits, and delays in fresh recruitment drives across government schools.
Key Highlights of the 5-Point Charter of Demands
The joint leadership emphasized that classroom teaching in hundreds of rural, tribal, and border-area schools has reached a near-total breakdown due to unfulfilled vacancies and administrative oversights.
The five core demands presented in the joint memorandum include:
- Immediate Teacher Recruitment: Filling thousands of vacant teaching positions (including TET-qualified candidates, subject teachers, and Kokborok language educators) through a single unified recruitment notification to resolve single-teacher school crises.
- Halt Non-Academic Teacher Duties: Reconsidering decisions that deploy school teachers into non-academic administrative roles—such as census operations, booth-level officer (BLO) duties, and survey tasks—to keep educators focused on classroom instruction.
- Upgrade Rural & Tribal School Infrastructure: Providing adequate textbooks on time, ensuring basic drinking water and sanitation facilities, and expanding pre-primary classrooms without overloading existing staff.
- Timely Distribution of Student Scholarships: Streamlining the immediate disbursement of pending pre-matric, post-matric, and tribal welfare scholarships to economically disadvantaged students.
- Review of Educational Policies: Addressing student concerns regarding the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and protecting long-serving educators’ job security in light of evolving regulatory directives.
