AGARTALA | July 31, 2026: In a swift operation by law enforcement authorities, the West Agartala Police Station successfully solved a theft case reported inside the Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital, arresting a contractual female hospital worker and recovering a stolen gold chain. Addressing media personnel during a press briefing today, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of West Agartala Police Station, Sanjit Sen, provided detailed insights into the investigation and subsequent recovery.
The incident occurred inside one of the ward complexes of IGM Hospital, where a patient admitted for treatment reported that her gold chain had gone missing under suspicious circumstances.
Swift Investigation and Interrogation Lead to Recovery
Following the formal complaint lodged by the patient’s family, a specialized team from West Agartala Police Station arrived at the hospital premises to inspect CCTV footage and cross-examine on-duty contractual and support staff. Suspicion fell on a casual female employee who had access to the patient’s ward during the timeframe of the missing jewelry.

- Prompt Identification: Based on CCTV logs and shift rosters, the suspect was brought in for formal questioning by female police personnel.
- Full Recovery of Stolen Asset: During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime, leading to the direct recovery and seizure of the stolen gold chain intact.
- Legal Proceedings: The accused worker was formally placed under arrest under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and produced before the court with a request for judicial remand.
