Kalyanpur Police Launches Intensive Campaign: Seven Members of Ganja Smuggling Ring Arrested, 20 Kilograms of Illegal Drugs Seized
After a prolonged anti-drug campaign, Tripura’s Kalyanpur Police achieved a major success. On Saturday night, during regular vehicle checks in the AR Para area, a black Eco car was stopped and seven smugglers, along with a large quantity of dried ganja, were apprehended by the police. Nearly 20 kilograms of dried ganja were recovered from inside the vehicle, which had the number plate TR01CC0276. It has been revealed that all six passengers in the car are residents of the Bhaglpur district in Bihar. Additionally, one person is a resident of the Lefunga area in Tripura.
During initial questioning, the suspects admitted to being involved in drug smuggling, stating that they were engaging in this activity for financial gain. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sambhu Kumar Mandal (23), Abhadesh Kumar Mandal (24), Mantu Mandal (37), Anjani Mandal (35), Sangita Kumari (20), and Lalita Devi (30) – all residents of Bihar. The driver of the car, Gautam Debbarma (35), is a resident of Tripura’s Lefunga area. Kalyanpur Police Station has informed that a case has been registered against the suspects under the appropriate sections of the NDPS Act. After completing legal procedures, they have been sent to the Khoyai District Court.
An official from the police station stated, “We will not compromise with Tripura’s drug-free mission. No one involved in drug trafficking will be spared.” This incident once again highlights the ongoing challenge of drug trafficking corridors in Tripura. However, the proactive approach of the police force remains the only way to combat this issue. The conscientious citizens are praising the role of the Kalyanpur Police in restoring peace and security in the region.
