AGARTALA | June 25, 2026: In a rapid investigative breakthrough following the high-stakes political murder of BJP worker Samir Das, the West Tripura District Police have detained four individuals in connection with the retaliatory violence, arson, and widespread vandalism that shook Kathaltali under the Amtali Police Station jurisdiction.
The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the local court today, with police seeking custody for further interrogation.
The strategic law enforcement updates and the current security status of the sub-division were formally detailed this morning by the Superintendent of Police (SP) for West Tripura, Shri Namit Pathak.
Meticulous Identification Amid Public Unrest
The brutal killing of Samir Das on June 23 had triggered aggressive protests and retaliatory attacks, culminating in the torching of several houses and properties in the Kathaltali border pocket. Acting swiftly to suppress further communal and political escalation, specialized police teams executed late-night raids across multiple hiding spots.
Based on eyewitness testimonies, video footage, and localized intelligence tracking, the four detained individuals have been identified as:
- Raju Laskar (Resident of Ranikhamar)
- Praban Das (Resident of Kathaltali Bazar)
- Sajal Das (Resident of Ranikhamar)
- Lakshman Malakar (Resident of Madhuban, Kathaltali)
Addressing a press brief regarding the overall law and order situation, West Tripura SP Namit Pathak asserted that while the initial murder investigation is being fast-tracked, no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands under the guise of retaliation.
”Our primary objective was to immediately neutralize the cycle of violence. Following the tragic murder of Samir Das, certain anti-social elements resorted to property damage and arson, which severely threatened public safety. We have formally detained four key accused individuals involved in these arson incidents, and they are being forwarded to the judicial court today. We are demanding strict police remand to unearth the deeper conspiracy. The situation in Kathaltali is now stable but remains under close observation,” West Tripura SP Namit Pathak stated.
Area Domination and Precautionary Parameters Sustained
To ensure absolute peace and prevent any fresh friction during the court production of the accused, the district administration has reinforced its tactical deployment layout:
- Joint Route Marches: Combined teams of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and local police are maintaining an active presence throughout Ranikhamar, Kathaltali Bazar, and Madhuban.
- Preventative Picketing: Fixed security checkpoints are scanning all incoming sub-urban vehicles to prevent any external mobilization or gathering near the court premises.
- Social Monitoring: Intelligence cells are actively monitoring localized communication channels to track and eliminate rumors intended to incite fresh public unrest.
The police administration has urged the general public to maintain tranquility and cooperate with the ongoing judicial process, promising that all perpetrators directly or indirectly linked to both the murder and the subsequent arson will face severe legal consequences.
