AGARTALA: In a swift and successful operation, the West Agartala Police have solved a high-stakes robbery within hours of its occurrence. Two thieves were arrested for stealing a bag of gold ornaments from an auto-rickshaw near the Sarkar Nursing Home area yesterday evening. Police managed to recover the entire cache of stolen jewelry, estimated to be worth approximately ₹20 lakh.
Providing details of the operation in a press conference held at the West Agartala Police Station today, SDPO (Sadar) Debaprasad Roy lauded the quick response of the investigating team.
The Incident: A Daring Evening Theft
According to police reports, the incident took place on Friday evening when a family traveling in an auto-rickshaw near the Sarkar Nursing Home became the target of a “snatch-and-run” tactic. Using the evening rush to their advantage, two criminals managed to flee with a bag containing high-value gold ornaments.
The victims immediately alerted the West Agartala Police, prompting an instant mobilization of security personnel across the city’s exit points.
Swift Investigation and Recovery
Under the direct supervision of SDPO Debaprasad Roy, a special team utilized CCTV footage from the locality and intelligence from secret informers to track the movement of the suspects.

- Timely Arrest: Both suspects were intercepted and detained before they could dispose of the stolen goods or leave the capital.
- Full Recovery: Upon searching the hideout of the accused, police recovered the gold ornaments in their entirety. The market value of the seized items is confirmed to be around ₹20 lakh.

”As soon as the information reached the West Police Station, we cordoned off the area and began a technical investigation. Our officers worked through the night to ensure the culprits didn’t get away. Recovering property worth ₹20 lakh in such a short window is a testament to the alertness of our force,” the SDPO stated.
Police Advisory for Citizens
While the recovery has brought relief to the victims, the SDPO issued a cautionary note to the public. He urged citizens to remain extra vigilant when carrying cash or jewelry in auto-rickshaws and rickshaws, especially in crowded hospital or market zones. He advised travelers to keep their belongings securely placed and to avoid displaying valuables in transit.
The two accused are being produced before the court today with a prayer for police remand to investigate their involvement in other pending theft cases in the city.
