AGARTALA: Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), is scheduled to arrive in Tripura today on an official two-day tour to review women’s safety, welfare initiatives, and legal protection mechanisms in the state. Ahead of the national chief’s arrival, Tripura State Commission for Women (TSCW) Chairperson Smt. Jharna Debbarma convened a press conference at the commission’s office in Agartala to outline the details of the visit.
Addressing media personnel, Smt. Jharna Debbarma emphasized that the visit aims to strengthen coordination between central and state bodies in safeguarding women’s rights and ensuring speedy redressal of grievances.
Key Highlights & Scheduled Programs:
- High-Level Administrative Review: The NCW Chairperson will hold high-level meetings with state administrative officials, police authorities, and legal heads to review ongoing measures related to women’s safety and crime prevention.
- Public Hearings & Interaction: A specialized interaction program is scheduled where the NCW chief will engage directly with local women, self-help groups, and representatives from social organizations to understand grassroots issues.
- Review of Institutional Facilities: Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar will inspect local One Stop Centres (Sakhi Centres), shelter homes, and women-centric support facilities to assess operational efficiency and infrastructure readiness.
- Strengthening Legal Advocacy: The State Commission Chairperson briefed reporters on joint strategies planned with the central commission to expedite pending complaints and promote legal literacy among rural women.
