AGARTALA | June 14, 2026: Following the declaration of the highly anticipated Tripura Bar Association (TBA) election results, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and CPI(M) State Secretary, Jitendra Choudhury, has issued an official reaction, sharing his perspective on the democratic mandate delivered by the state’s legal fraternity.
The election, which saw a vibrant turnout earlier today at the Agartala court complex, concluded with the counting of secret ballots. The intense contest between the major panels has drawn significant attention from the state’s political and legal circles alike.
Respecting the Democratic Mandate of the Legal Fraternity
In his statement to the media, Jitendra Choudhury congratulated the newly elected executive committee members and extended his best wishes to the entire legal community for executing a peaceful and organized polling process.
”The Tripura Bar Association election represents a crucial pillar of democratic practice among the state’s intellectuals and legal guardians. We deeply respect the mandate delivered by the practicing advocates today. The bar has always historically stood as a shield for constitutional values and the democratic rights of common citizens, and we hope the new leadership will continue to uphold that glorious legacy,” the Opposition Leader stated.
LoP Calls for Uncompromised Judicial Independence
Shifting focus to the administrative responsibilities ahead, the veteran leader emphasized that the newly formed committee must prioritize the welfare, infrastructure, and professional security of all working advocates, irrespective of their political leanings.
Choudhury noted that at a time when the state is facing various institutional challenges, an independent, strong, and vocal Bar Association is vital to ensure fair play, protect human rights, and keep a check on any administrative high-handedness. He concluded by expressing hope that the newly elected body will work with absolute transparency to resolve the pending grievances of the legal workforce in Agartala and across sub-divisional courts.
