Agartala came alive with patriotic spirit on Friday as Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan (NSV) organised its traditional rally to commemorate the 129th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The historic procession, a long-standing tradition in Tripura, drew large crowds and featured colourful tableaux, cultural performances, and vivid portrayals of India’s freedom struggle.Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, along with Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee and Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, joined the rally and praised the efforts of students and teachers for preserving this legacy over the decades. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described Netaji as a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and nationalism, whose ideals continue to inspire generations.The rally began from the NSV campus and passed through major city roads, highlighting themes related to the Indian National Army, Netaji’s revolutionary vision, and social awareness issues such as the fight against drug abuse. The prominent display of the Azad Hind Flag added to the patriotic fervour.Dr Saha also noted that January 23 is observed as Parakram Diwas to honour Netaji’s contribution to India’s freedom movement and urged young people to follow his path of dedication and fearless service to the nation.Founded in 1948 to educate children of families displaced during Partition, Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan has been organising this rally since 1951. This year’s procession marked its 74th edition, reaffirming its place as one of Agartala’s most significant patriotic events.
