AGARTALA | June 22, 2026: Preparations for Tripura’s historic and traditional seven-day Kharchi Festival and Fair have officially commenced in full swing. To ensure a smooth rollout of the mega event, a high-level preparatory meeting was convened this morning at the conference hall of the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office.
The extensive coordination meeting was chaired by senior MLA Ratan Chakraborty, alongside the Acting Sabhadhipati of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad, Bishwajit Shil, senior administrative officers, and block representatives.
A Symbol of Unity and Cultural Heritage
The week-long festival is scheduled to begin on July 22, 2026, at the premises of the historic Chaturdasha Devata Temple (Fourteen Gods Temple) in Khayerpur, under the Old Agartala block. Addressing the administrative panel and public representatives, MLA Ratan Chakraborty characterized the Kharchi Puja as a unique cultural bridge that unites both tribal and non-tribal communities of the state.
He highlighted that the historic festival has transcended religious and regional boundaries, evolving into a premier tourism attraction that draws thousands of international and national devotees to Tripura every year.
”Kharchi Puja is the very soul of Tripura’s cultural harmony and identity. Our primary objective during this preparatory phase is to ensure top-tier hospitality, tight security, and smooth infrastructure for the lakhs of devotees arriving next month. This festival belongs to every citizen of Tripura, and we are committed to making the 2026 edition an absolute benchmark of successful administrative execution,” MLA Ratan Chakraborty stated during the session.
Key Infrastructure and Security Measures Finalized
The review board systematically mapped out structural strategies across various public utility segments to prevent stampedes and technical failures at the mela grounds:
- Public Utilities: Directives were issued to the departments concerned to guarantee uninterrupted electricity, upgraded street lighting layouts, and multi-point safe drinking water stations across the entire Khayerpur perimeter.
- Traffic & Safety Management: Law enforcement agencies discussed dedicated route maps and single-window parking zones to completely mitigate traffic bottlenecks along the national highway feeding Old Agartala.
- Exhibition & Cultural Stages: The Department of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) will coordinate daily cultural programs across the traditional Habeli and Krishnamala stages. Additionally, multiple government stalls will be erected to highlight public welfare initiatives alongside a dedicated food court.
Medical teams equipped with emergency mobile units and ambulance bays will remain deployed round-the-clock throughout the seven-day festival trail.
