Three teenagers tragically lost their lives this morning in a drowning incident at a pond in the Badharghat area of Agartala city. The incident occurred at the Arundhatinagar Agricultural Research Centre, where the boys were bathing.
According to Tripura Police, the incident unfolded when one of the boys found himself struggling in the water. In a valiant effort to save him, the other two boys also jumped in, but unfortunately, all three were unable to keep afloat in the deep water. While locals were able to rescue one of the boys and rush him to a nearby hospital, the other two were retrieved from the water by police and fire brigade personnel. Tragically, doctors at GB Pant Hospital declared them dead upon arrival.
The victims have been identified as Bobby Shukla Das (17), Shubham Deb (17), and Shubhjit Dey (15). The heartbreaking scene of grieving parents waiting by the pondside has left the community in mourning. Local MLA Meena Rani Sarkar visited the site to offer her condolences and express her sorrow over the tragic loss.
Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha also shared his grief over the incident, taking to social media to convey his condolences to the families of the victims. He has instructed the administration to take necessary measures in light of the tragedy.
The loss of these young lives has left a deep impact on the community, serving as a stark reminder of the dangers of water-related activities. The incident serves as a somber warning for others to exercise caution when engaging in such activities, especially during the monsoon season when water bodies can be particularly treacherous.
