AGARTALA | July 3, 2026: Launching a direct administrative offensive against the state government over essential public utilities, a senior delegation of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) today marched to the Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS). The opposition leaders submitted a detailed, multi-point memorandum alleging deep-rooted corruption, fiscal leaks, and severe structural negligence within the state’s drinking water delivery pipelines.
The formal protest rally commenced from the Congress Bhavan headquarters in Agartala earlier this morning before arriving at the DWS directorate premises to hand over the charter.
Severe Technical Discrepancies Flagged Under ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’
The core focus of the Congress party’s memorandum centered around the execution parameters of the flagship central initiative, the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), alongside other state-sponsored irrigation grids. The TPCC asserted that due to widespread corruption, the deployment of low-grade hardware materials, and a complete lack of technical oversight by department engineers, ordinary citizens across urban and rural blocks are being systematically deprived of safe drinking water.
The opposition placed a highly alarming allegation regarding the biochemical safety of the supplied water, pointing directly to the structural quality of chemical purifiers utilized by the department.
”We have marched to the DWS headquarters today because access to safe drinking water is a fundamental right, not an administrative luxury. The implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Tripura has turned into a den of financial corruption. Most shockingly, the chemical quality of the Alum (Fitkiri) used to treat public water supplies is highly substandard. Using low-grade Alum is intentionally contaminating the water grid, exposing children and families to severe waterborne ailments. There is a clear corrupt nexus operating behind these supply procurement tenders. We demand a high-level independent probe into this entire department immediately,” a senior Pradesh Congress leader stated to the press.
Core Grievances and Enforcement Demands Outlined by Congress
The formal memorandum submitted by the TPCC delegation demands immediate, time-bound interventions from the DWS ministry on several critical parameters:
- Rigorous Investigation into Alum Procurement: Initiating a transparent, scientific inquiry into the procurement quality of Alum (Fitkiri) and blacklisting vendors supplying low-grade chemical treatment compounds.
- Legal Action Against Corrupt Syndicates: Registering immediate criminal cases and fixing structural accountability against contractors and department officials involved in deploying low-grade pipeline materials.
- Controlling Waterborne Outbreaks: Coordinating with the health department to map out rural pockets facing a sudden spike in waterborne infections and deploying mobile water-purification assets to those zones.
- Rectifying Pipeline Ruptures: Fast-tracking engineering audits to repair broken pipelines that are currently allowing raw, untreated surface run-off to mix with treated drinking water grids.
The Congress leadership concluded the demonstration by warning that if the DWS directorate fails to institute a visible quality-control framework and launch a formal probe within the next fortnight, the party will initiate a statewide democratic blockade targeting all regional DWS division offices.
