AGARTALA | July 3, 2026: In a swift and successful anti-crime operation, the East Agartala Police have arrested two individuals suspected of brutally assaulting a man and snatching ₹2 lakh in cash. The breakthrough was achieved within hours of the crime being officially registered, leading to a substantial recovery of the stolen money.
Providing crucial case updates, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Sadar, Shri Debaprasad Roy, addressed the media today, confirming that a hunt is underway to track down the remaining associates involved in the crime.
Ambushed Inside a Rented Residence
The victim, identified as Dhananjoy Tripura, had recently traveled to Agartala from Sabroom with a cash reserve of ₹2 lakh specifically intended for purchasing a vehicle. Upon arriving in the capital, he checked into the rented accommodation of an acquaintance, Rajesh Tripura, located in the Lal Bahadur area.
According to police sources, Rajesh Tripura was not present at the house during the time of the incident. Capitalizing on his absence, a gang of three to four unidentified miscreants forcefully barged into the residence. The criminals cornered Dhananjoy, subjected him to physical assault, and fled the spot after forcefully taking his entire bag containing the cash.
Midnight Police Crackdown and Legal Remand
Following the traumatic encounter, Dhananjoy Tripura immediately approached the East Agartala Police Station to lodge a formal criminal complaint. Acting on the intelligence gathered from the victim’s statement and local inputs, a specialized police team launched a targeted midnight raid in the Lal Bahadur locality on Thursday night, successfully capturing two prime suspects.
”Our teams acted with absolute urgency the moment the snatching complaint was logged at the East Agartala Police Station. During our intense searches in the Lal Bahadur area last night, we managed to pin down and arrest two individuals directly linked to the ambush. We have already recovered ₹1,35,000 out of the stolen ₹2,00000 from their possession. The arrested duo is being produced before the court today with a formal prayer for police remand to extract the whereabouts of their remaining associates and the remaining cash balance,” Sadar SDPO Debaprasad Roy stated during the media briefing.
The Sadar police division has reinforced patrolling frameworks across the Lal Bahadur and adjacent suburban residential belts to check the movement of organized snatching rings during the ongoing festive and commercial months.
