AGARTALA: Rekindling its core political agenda ahead of upcoming local council and state alignments, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has officially announced a massive demonstration in the national capital next month. The party will organize a high-profile sit-in demonstration (Dharna) at New Delhi’s historic Jantar Mantar on August 23, focusing on its long-standing demand for a separate statehood of ‘Tipraland’.
The strategic political move was formally declared by IPFT General Secretary Swapan Debbarma during a packed press conference held at the Agartala Press Club.
Addressing the media, Swapan Debbarma stated that the central working committee of the party has finalized the roadmap for the “Delhi Abhiyan” (Delhi March). The demonstration aims to draw the direct attention of the central government and national leaders to the socio-political demands of Tripura’s indigenous population, specifically the restructuring of constitutional powers under Articles 2 and 3 for a separate state.
”Our struggle for Tipraland is a fundamental expression of our community’s survival, identity, and socio-economic rights. On August 23, the IPFT leadership along with thousands of dedicated regional workers will stage an indefinite protest at Jantar Mantar. We want the Central Government to address our core grievances and initiate direct structural dialogues regarding the constitutional separation of the tribal council areas,” stated IPFT General Secretary Swapan Debbarma.
The party confirmed that the first major batch of state delegates, senior MLAs, and youth frontal leaders are scheduled to depart Agartala for New Delhi by August 18 to oversee the logistical arrangements at the national capital. The announcement signals a strategic re-mobilization for IPFT on its foundational regional plank, a move that is expected to alter the political calculus within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) segments in the coming months.
