AGARTALA | July 7, 2026: In a major move to highlight the multi-crore investment avenues within the state’s expanding commercial plantation sector, the Chairman of the Tripura Tea Development Corporation Limited (TTDC), Shri Samir Ranjan Ghosh, hosted a high-profile press conference tomorrow, July 8, 2026.
According to an official media advisory released by the Bureau of the Department of Information & Cultural Affairs (ICA), the briefing was scheduled for 4:00 PM and was held at the Office Chamber of the Hon’ble Chairman, TTDC Ltd, located within the Old Secretariat Complex in Agartala.
Pitching Tripura’s Historic Tea Industry to Global Investors
The media briefing comes in the immediate wake of heavy state preparations for the landmark “Destination Tripura: Business Conclave-2026,” which is set to commence on July 9 at the Hapania International Fair Grounds.
With Tripura currently ranking as the fifth-largest tea-producing state in India—boasting over 52 functional tea estates and generating nearly 90 lakh kilograms of aromatic leaves annually—the sector has emerged as a prime investment vertical for domestic and international agro-processing corporate houses.
During tomorrow’s briefing, Chairman Samir Ranjan Ghosh is expected to outline the specific business incentives and structural developments designed to attract investments, including:
- The Upcoming Agartala Tea Auction Centre: Progress updates on the fast-tracked launch of the state’s independent tea auction hub at Gurkhabasti, which aims to slash logistical freight costs for buyers and local small growers by up to 40%.
- Utilizing Surplus Plantation Land: Strategic layout plans for utilizing over 6,800 hectares of uncultivated surplus tea-allotted lands for clean agro-processing plants, eco-tourism projects, and blending facilities.
- Welfare Capital Infusions: Expanding the scope of infrastructure updates under the Mukhyamantri Cha Sramik Unnayan Prakalp to ensure a robust, skilled local workforce for new corporate partners.
The ICA Department has requested all accredited print, electronic, and digital news bureaus to send their respective correspondents and photojournalists to the Old Secretariat venue by 3:45 PM tomorrow for comprehensive operational coverage.
