AGARTALA | July 7, 2026: To address modern challenges in the animal husbandry sector and strengthen public health mechanisms against cross-species infections, the Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD) of Tripura today organized a high-profile, day-long state-level seminar at Pragna Bhavan. The central theme of the symposium focused extensively on “Livestock Health Security: Innovations in Disease Prevention, Surveillance, and Control.”
The seminar was formally inaugurated by Smt. Deepa D. Nair, Secretary of the ARDD, alongside Dr. Neeraj Kumar Chanchal, Director of the ARDD, and a panel of leading animal health experts from Northeast India.
Equipping Veterinarians for Emerging Pathogens and Zoonotic Threats
The state-level gathering drew dozens of field veterinarians, block-level medical officers, livestock specialists, and administrative representatives from across all eight districts. The primary objective was to modernize the state’s clinical outreach to match changing global animal disease patterns.
Addressing the gathering, ARDD Secretary Deepa D. Nair highlighted the robust structural growth of Tripura’s livestock and dairy farming ecosystem, which has expanded substantially over the last five years.
”With the massive expansion of animal husbandry across our rural blocks over the past five years, the responsibilities of our veterinary framework have multiplied. This state-level seminar is strategically timed to equip our veterinary officers and ground-level stakeholders with advanced knowledge regarding emerging, complex animal pathogens. A primary focus area of our department right now is the strict prevention and surveillance of zoonotic diseases—infections that can transfer from animals to humans. To establish an absolute biosecurity shield for our citizens, we must leverage modern diagnostic infrastructure, proactive vaccination schedules, and coordinated inter-departmental operations,” ARDD Secretary Deepa D. Nair stated during her inaugural brief.
Inter-State Expert Collaborative Sessions Planned for the Day
Following the inaugural address, ARDD Director Dr. Neeraj Kumar Chanchal outlined a technical roadmap for the technical sessions. He noted that specialized animal health scientists and epidemiological experts from neighboring states, including Assam, were invited to host technical panels during the day-long event.
The interactive workshop modules focused on three core operational verticals:
- Integrating Advanced Technology: Deploying real-time digital tracking systems and mobile diagnostics to identify livestock infections at the block level before they scale into regional outbreaks.
- Strengthening Localized Surveillance: Building responsive reporting loops connecting rural dairy farmers directly with subdivisional veterinary hospitals.
- Boosting Yield and Enhancing Public Safety: Ensuring strict clinical compliance to improve overall livestock productivity, protect farmers’ financial investments, and maintain public food security standards.
The day-long seminar concluded with a commitment by the directorate to organize decentralized field workshops for animal rearers across all subdivisions, ensuring that innovative disease-mitigation strategies are practically implemented at the grassroots level.
