AGARTALA: The sacred return journey of the Holy Trinity—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra—was celebrated with grand religious fervor and deep devotion across the capital city today as the annual Ulto Rath Yatra (Bahuda Yatra) concluded at the historic Jagannath Jiu Temple (Jagannath Bari) in Agartala.
Since early morning, thousands of devotees from across the city and adjoining areas flocked to the temple premises to seek divine blessings and participate in the auspicious festivities.
Sacred Rituals and Chariot Procession
The day’s proceedings commenced with specialized morning rituals, including Maha Aarti, traditional recitations, and special Puja-Archana conducted by the temple priests. Following the completion of the inner sanctum rituals, the holy idols were ceremoniously escorted in a traditional Pahandi procession and seated upon the richly decorated chariot.
Highlights of the Ulto Rath Yatra Celebrations:
- Massive Devotee Turnout: Streets surrounding the Jagannath Jiu Temple resonated with chants of “Jai Jagannath” and the beating of traditional drums (khol-dhak) as thousands gathered to pull the sacred ropes of the chariot.
- Divine Darshan: Devotees offered sweets, fruits, and prayers to the deities to mark the conclusion of the week-long festival.
- Return to Abode: The chariot traversed designated city routes before returning to the main temple complex, signifying the end of the annual Rath Yatra festivities.
Tight Security and Traffic Management
To manage the heavy influx of worshippers and ensure public safety along the procession route, the West Tripura District Police and traffic administration deployed dedicated personnel around the Jagannath Bari complex and Post Office Chowmuhani stretch.
The vibrant atmosphere, continuous devotional music, and seamless community participation made this year’s Ulto Rath Yatra a deeply spiritual experience for the residents of Agartala.
