AGARTALA | July 29, 2026: Intensifying their democratic struggle against prolonged recruitment delays, hundreds of unemployed job seekers who have successfully qualified in the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET-I and TET-II) today laid siege to the State Education Directorate (Shiksha Bhavan) in Agartala. The agitating candidates gheraoed the headquarters complex and submitted a fresh, high-priority deputation to senior administrative directors, demanding immediate execution of appointment letters without any further bureaucratic deferrals.
The mass gathering saw qualified candidates from across all eight districts converging at Office Lane early in the morning, holding placards and raising slogans highlighting the severe staff shortages across government schools statewide.
Severe Frustration Over Pending Appointment Letters
The qualified candidates pointed out that despite clearing the rigorous state-level eligibility examinations and completing formal document verification rounds, hundreds of eligible teachers remain stranded without active postings. They argued that while the Education Department frequently acknowledges thousands of vacant teaching posts in elementary and secondary schools, actual recruitment notifications are being released in piecemeal phases.
The primary demands raised by the delegation during their interaction with top officials included:
- Immediate Issuance of Offer Letters: Fast-tracking the dispatch of official appointment letters for all remaining TET-I and TET-II merit-listed candidates.
- One-Time Clearance of Vacancies: Filling all sanctioned, vacant teacher posts in a single unified recruitment drive rather than delaying in phased batches.
- Age Relaxation Protections: Ensuring that candidates whose eligibility certificates face impending expiration due to administrative delays receive full protection and immediate placement.
