The West Tripura District Police has taken a significant step in the fight against illegal immigration by setting up a 15-member Special Task Force (STF) to detect, identify, and deport illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar. This move, led by Dr. Kiran Kumar, Superintendent of Police, aims to address the issue of individuals who have settled illegally or have been apprehended within the district.
The STF, which includes Officers-in-Charge from all 15 police stations in the district and is headed by Debasish Saha, Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Intelligence Branch (DIB), will focus on individuals who have crossed the international border with Bangladesh, which spans 856 kilometers, making Tripura a sensitive area for cross-border movement.
According to the directives, once an individual is confirmed as an illegal Bangladeshi national or Rohingya through proper investigation, their biometric data and demographic information will be collected and uploaded to the Foreigners Identification Portal maintained by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Subsequently, the individual will be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) for deportation or repatriation to their home country.
The DySP (DIB) has been tasked with maintaining detailed records of all activities on a weekly, fortnightly, and monthly basis to ensure efficient tracking and reporting. This initiative is part of the broader national security strategy to monitor and regulate cross-border infiltration in the Northeast region.
With concerns over national security and demographic changes arising from illegal immigration, the formation of the STF is a proactive step to address these challenges and protect the integrity of the borders. This development underscores the commitment of the West Tripura District Police to uphold the rule of law and safeguard the interests of the state and its residents.
