Unemployed youths aspiring for the post of Multipurpose Worker (MPW) on Thursday staged a protest demanding immediate recruitment to vacant posts in the Health Department. As they failed to secure an appointment with the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the Health portfolio, the aspirants made a symbolic appeal by folding their hands and urging his intervention. The protesters first demonstrated in front of the Health Department office at Gurkhabasti and later sat on a dharna outside the Directorate of Health Services. The agitators claimed that around 1,200 MPW posts are currently lying vacant across the state. They alleged that despite repeated representations to the authorities, the recruitment process has not been initiated, leaving thousands of trained youths unemployed.Stating that their demand is limited to filling up the existing vacancies, the protesters urged the government to take immediate steps to start the recruitment process. They warned that the agitation would be intensified if their demands are not addressed soon.
