In a major push to revitalize the state’s traditional sectors, Hon’ble Forest Minister Shri Animesh Debbarma inaugurated a state-level workshop on Bamboo Value Chain Development today at Pragna Bhavan. The event marks a strategic move by the Forest Department to transition Tripura’s bamboo potential from traditional handicrafts into a robust, high-value industrial economy.
Strengthening the “Green Gold” Economy
During his inaugural address at Hall No. 1, Minister Debbarma emphasized that bamboo is not just a plant but a vital economic pillar for Tripura.
- Integrated Approach: The Minister called for a “Seed-to-Shelf” strategy, focusing on systematic cultivation, advanced processing, and global branding.
- Rural Livelihoods: He noted that the bamboo sector is the backbone of rural employment, especially for indigenous communities, and must be modernized to double their income.
- Tripura as a Hub: “With the right innovation and training, Tripura can lead the Northeast as the primary bamboo hub of India,” the Minister asserted.
