AGARTALA | June 13, 2026: Outraged over a sudden spike in horrific crimes against women, hundreds of youth and student activists filled the streets of the capital city today to protest against the deteriorating law and order situation, which they termed the “reign of a jungle raj” in Tripura.
The demonstration focused on two major recent incidents: the shocking rape of a schoolgirl inside a classroom at Anandnagar School and the suspicious death of 22-year-old female hostel warden Manisha Das at the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College. Led by prominent youth leaders Nabarun Deb and Palash Bhowmik, the massive rally marched through key corridors of Agartala before culminating in a high-voltage demonstration outside the Police Headquarters (PHQ).
Outrage Over Classroom Rape and Institutional Negligence
The protestors raised fierce slogans against the state administration and the Tripura Police for failing to provide basic security to women, even within educational institutions. The recent incident where a minor student was violated inside her own classroom at Anandnagar has sent shockwaves across the state, raising serious questions about campus monitoring and student safety.
Coupled with the ongoing mystery surrounding the death of the young hostel warden at the private medical college in Agartala—which the victim’s family alleges was a pre-planned murder—the youth fronts claimed that institutional cover-ups are being actively patronized.
”Tripura is witnessing a complete breakdown of law and order. Our daughters are no longer safe inside school classrooms, nor are working women safe inside high-security medical college hostels. The government is acting as a silent spectator while a jungle raj thrives. We demand immediate capital punishment for the Anandnagar culprits and an uncompromised, high-level judicial inquiry into the Santiniketan Medical College death case,” youth leader Nabarun Deb stated during his address.
Security Breached as Protestors Gherao Police HQ; Street Assembly Follows
The rally turned aggressive as it reached the gates of the Police Headquarters, where protestors staged a sit-in demonstration and brief blockade, demanding to meet senior police officials to submit a memorandum seeking time-bound investigations.
Following the gherao program, a street-corner assembly was organized nearby. Addressing the gathering, Palash Bhowmik warned the police department against twisting facts or delaying the arrest of influential individuals linked to these crimes.
The youth leadership concluded the street meeting by announcing that if the police administration fails to file fast-track chargesheets in both cases and ensure absolute safety for female students across all sub-divisions, they will scale up their democratic agitation into an indefinite statewide civil disobedience movement.
