AGARTALA: Final touches and high-pitched festive preparations are underway at the historic Jagannath Jiu Temple in Agartala as the state gears up to celebrate the auspicious annual Rath Yatra festival this Thursday (July 16). With just 48 hours left for the grand chariot procession, the entire temple complex has been gripped by deep spiritual fervor.
The historical temple, which has historically shared a deep structural and spiritual connection with Tripura’s erstwhile royal family, is being beautifully illuminated with decorative lights and colourful pandals to welcome thousands of visiting pilgrims.
Traditional artisans and structural carpenters are working round-the-clock on the temple premises to complete the structural decoration and safety checks of the massive wooden chariots (Raths) of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra. The complex painting designs, placement of sacred brass canopies, and checking of the heavy pulling ropes are currently being supervised by senior temple priests and administrative coordinators.
The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) along with the West Tripura District Administration has already put in place multi-layered security cordons, medical booths, and traffic diversion routes to ensure a completely smooth and accident-free movement of the ocean of devotees expected to pull the sacred ropes on Thursday afternoon. Senior administrators noted that special arrangements for drinking water, hygiene stations, and CCTV surveillance have been heavily integrated across the central route of the chariot convoy.
