AGARTALA: A major political controversy has erupted in Tripura as the All India Services Association (Tripura Chapter) strongly condemned Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury for his allegedly derogatory remarks directed at an IPS officer.
The association has demanded that the veteran CPI(M) leader immediately withdraw his comments and issue an unconditional public apology.
The backlash follows an incident where the Leader of the Opposition reportedly referred to an on-duty IPS officer as an “idiot.” Taking a serious view of the matter, the state chapter of the elite officers’ association issued a formal statement expressing deep resentment.
The association termed the remark highly objectionable, unparliamentary, and demoralizing for public servants who work tirelessly to maintain law and order. They emphasized that while healthy criticism in a democracy is welcome, personal abuse and name-calling directed at administrative and police officers are completely unacceptable.
The civil services body made it clear that a public apology is necessary to restore the dignity of the administrative services.
