In a significant crackdown on illegal activities along the India-Bangladesh border, the Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian drug peddler while seizing contraband worth Rs 65 lakh.
The operations, carried out in various locations in Tripura, resulted in the arrest of individuals involved in drug trafficking and illegal entry into Indian territory.
At the Border Outpost (BOP) Boxanagar in Sepahijala district, BSF troops intercepted an Indian national in possession of 48 kilograms of ganja on June 12. The seizure of such a large quantity of cannabis highlights the ongoing issue of drug trafficking in the region.
In another joint operation with the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Agartala and Ambassa railway stations, three Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended. The individuals, hailing from Khulna and Netrakona districts in Bangladesh, are being investigated for their illegal entry into India.
Additionally, BSF personnel from BOP Koylatilla intercepted a Mahindra Bolero pick-up vehicle in the hinterland and discovered 275 mobile phones of various brands inside. The estimated value of the seized phones is around Rs 65 lakh, indicating the extent of illegal smuggling activities taking place in the area.
A BSF spokesperson emphasized the force’s commitment to enhancing security measures along the international border to prevent cross-border infiltration, exfiltration, and smuggling. The recent operations are part of a broader effort to combat trans-border crime and ensure national security.
