AGARTALA: In a historic stride toward promoting indigenous language and literature, the Kokborok Sahitya Sabha (KSS) has officially announced the organization of the first-ever “Kokborok Book Fair 2026.” The three-day cultural extravaganza is scheduled to commence on July 21 and will conclude on July 23, 2026, at the Dasharath Deb Bhavan in the Supari Bagan area of Agartala.
The announcement was made during a formal press conference held at the Agartala Press Club by the President of the Kokborok Sahitya Sabha, Ramesh Debbarma.
Detailing the preparations for this inaugural event, Ramesh Debbarma informed the media that the book fair aims to provide a dedicated platform for Kokborok authors, poets, and researchers to showcase their literary contributions to a wider audience. He confirmed that the Honorable Governor of Tripura has graciously consented to inaugurate the event on the morning of July 21.
Key Highlights of the Fair:
- Literary Showcase: The fair will feature exclusive stalls dedicated to Kokborok poetry, novels, academic research, and folklore, encouraging both established writers and budding talents to participate.
- Cultural Integration: Beyond literature, the event will include discussions, poetry recitation sessions (Khorang), and interactions between writers and the indigenous community.
- Objective: The Kokborok Sahitya Sabha emphasizes that this fair is a strategic move to preserve the cultural identity of the state’s largest indigenous language and to foster a reading culture among the youth.
Addressing the media, President Ramesh Debbarma stated:
”This is a momentous occasion for our language and community. Holding a dedicated book fair exclusively for Kokborok literature has been a long-standing aspiration. Through this platform, we want to ensure that our oral traditions, written history, and contemporary literary works reach every household in Tripura. We urge the book-loving public and students across the state to attend the fair in large numbers and support our regional authors.”
The Dasharath Deb Bhavan at Supari Bagan is currently being prepared to accommodate the anticipated influx of literature enthusiasts. The Kokborok Sahitya Sabha has invited all prominent literary bodies, cultural organizations, and the general public to make the inaugural edition of the Kokborok Book Fair a grand success.
