AGARTALA: Prioritizing public safety and seamless crowd management ahead of the grand chariot festival, the West Tripura District Administration conducted a comprehensive on-the-spot inspection of the city’s major religious hubs. On Wednesday, West Tripura District Magistrate & Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar, accompanied by West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak and Traffic SP Kanta Jangir, visited the historic Jagannath Bari Temple and the ISKCON Temple in Agartala to assess ground-level preparations for tomorrow’s Rath Yatra.
During the extensive joint walk-through, the top administrative and police officials reviewed the designated procession routes, security barricading, emergency healthcare deployments, and traffic diversion layouts.
Special emphasis was laid on verifying the technical specifications of the towering wooden chariots. The administration checked the physical structures to ensure complete adherence to the state’s mandatory safety protocols, including structural height restrictions and the exclusion of hazardous metallic components.
Key Administrative & Safety Measures Reviewed:
- Chariot Specifications: Strict verification of the standard 5-meter height limit for the holy chariots to avoid contact with any overhead utilities.
- Power Grid Coordination: Collaboration with the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) to temporarily isolate or clear low-hanging transmission lines along the main procession pathways.
- Emergency Infrastructure: Deployment of dedicated medical desks, standby ambulances, and fire & emergency services personnel to follow the main chariots throughout the journey.
- Crowd Control and Traffic Diversions: Placement of specialized traffic escorts and strategic barricades near the Jagannath Bari and ISKCON temple surroundings to prevent gridlocks.
Addressing the media after the inspection, West Tripura DM Dr. Vishal Kumar expressed satisfaction with the overall arrangements made by the respective temple committees and line departments.
”Our foremost priority is to ensure that the sacred Rath Yatra is celebrated with utmost devotion and absolute safety. We have thoroughly reviewed the transit routes, security layers, and technical aspects of the chariots with the temple authorities, who are extending complete cooperation. A few minor issues identified during our inspection will be fully resolved by tonight, ensuring a smooth and accident-free experience for the thousands of devotees,” stated DM Dr. Vishal Kumar.
The West Tripura District Administration has appealed to the public to cooperate with the deployed on-duty police personnel, maintain discipline during the pull of the chariots, and strictly follow the safety instructions issued for the grand event.
