Eleven Bangladeshi nationals, including four children, were detained by Tripura Police and Border Security Forces (BSF) on Friday morning as they attempted to cross the international border through the Srinagar area under Sabroom Sub-division of Tripura’s South District.
According to Tripura Police sources, the 11 individuals were first detained by villagers from an abandoned house belonging to Dhananjay Debnath of Karlia Tila in Krishnanagar Gram Panchayat under Poangbari RD Block of Sabroom Sub-division. The villagers then handed them over to the Tripura Police and BSF. The source revealed that the group of Bangladeshi nationals had come from Gujarat with the intention of heading to Bangladesh. The group consisted of three men, four women, and four children.
The detained individuals were identified as Monish Sidhar (40), Muniya (12), Nashreen Begam, Ratul Mir Dha (04), Rahim (12), Ahmad Seikh (34), Seema (28), Tarun Seikh (02), Limo (18), Md Isha Seikh (21), and Arafat Seikh (02).
“We have taken them into custody and will produce them before the court seeking police remand for further interrogation,” a police official stated.
The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in curbing illegal border crossings and the need for heightened security measures in the region. The detained individuals will now face legal proceedings as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding their attempted border crossing.
