AGARTALA: Severe political anger continues to build across Tripura following the violent attack on opposition workers in Mohanpur. Earlier today, former Chief Minister and veteran CPIM leader Manik Sarkar, along with the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jitendra Chaudhury and other top party leaders, visited the Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital in Agartala to inquire about the health condition of injured CPIM worker Subhash Debnath.
Debnath was brutally assaulted allegedly by ruling party miscreants in Fatikcherra while heading to attend a scheduled mass deputation program organized by the CPIM Mohanpur Sub-Divisional Committee.
Interacting with media personnel on the hospital premises after reviewing the medical treatment of the injured worker, both Manik Sarkar and Jitendra Chaudhury launched a scathing attack on the state government and the Tripura Police over the total breakdown of law and order in the state.
”Law and Order Has Completely Collapsed”: Manik Sarkar
Addressing reporters, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar expressed grave concern over the growing political violence and state-wide intimidation tactics.
”Opposition parties are being blatantly denied their fundamental constitutional right to hold peaceful democratic programs. Even after receiving formal written permission from the police authorities, miscreants are systematically blocking roads and physically attacking opposition workers in broad daylight. The police have turned into mere helpless onlookers, taking instructions from political hoodlums. The law enforcement machinery in Tripura has completely collapsed,” Manik Sarkar remarked sharply.
LoP Jitendra Chaudhury Slams Police Capitulation
Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury lashed out at the police administration for failing to protect democratic rights. He recalled how the Mohanpur SDPO admitted incapacity to manage a mob of ruling party supporters, forcing the CPIM to suspend its peaceful deputation to the SDM.
”Today’s brutal attack on Subhash Debnath and the blockage of Fatikcherra market is proof that governance in Tripura is being run by ‘bike gangs’ rather than the rule of law. The police department’s surrender to criminal elements is alarming. If citizens and political workers cannot even move freely to submit a memorandum on local issues, it demonstrates a complete state of jungle raj,” Chaudhury stated.
The senior CPIM delegation assured full support to the family of the injured worker and demanded immediate, exemplary arrest of all culprits involved in the Mohanpur violence, warning that the party would take to the streets state-wide if justice is delayed.
