AGARTALA | June 27, 2026: Pitching for absolute political pressure over civil safety protocols, the Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister of Tripura, Shri Manik Sarkar, today led a high-level CPI(M) delegation to the residence of the late Subhrajit Chowdhury, who tragically succumbed to his injuries following the horrific explosion at Ramnagar Road No. 4.
The veteran Left leader spent considerable time consoling the deceased’s grieving wife, mother, and other family members, extending deep solidarity on behalf of the party’s state committee.
Left Delegation Offers Condolences, Interacts with Bereaved Family
Subhrajit Chowdhury, who sustained near 90% burn injuries when a massive blast ripped through the first floor of the residential complex on Thursday, breathed his last yesterday morning while undergoing treatment under high-dependency clinical monitoring at the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital. His untimely demise has sent shockwaves through the local community, where he was highly regarded for his involvement with an Abacus educational center operating inside the complex.
Visiting the victim’s household, the CPI(M) leadership sat with the family members to hear their harrowing accounts of the incident and promised to stand by them in their quest for justice and adequate administrative compensation.
”Losing a young, promising life to such structural negligence is an irreparable loss, and no amount of words can alleviate the pain of Subhrajit’s mother and wife. The entire state stands deeply shocked by this catastrophe. We have extended our profound condolences to the bereaved family today. The administration cannot merely view this as an isolated accident; it is a grim reminder of how public utility frameworks are being managed. The government must provide an immediate, secure livelihood alternative and comprehensive financial compensation to the victim’s family,” former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar stated after meeting the household.
CPI(M) Top Brass Inspects Shattered Apartment Site
Following their visit to the family home, Manik Sarkar, accompanied by senior CPI(M) divisional secretaries and youth wing organizers, physically inspected the blast site at the residential apartment complex to assess the scale of the damage:
- Evaluating Structural Fissures: The Left leaders reviewed the blown-out window frames, collapsed internal partitions, and cracked walls of the affected flats, noting that eight separate apartment units suffered severe collateral damages.
- Demanding Transparent Technical Probe: Interacting with forensic units and remaining residents at the site, Manik Sarkar emphasized that the high-level inquiry panel constituted by the state government must look deep into structural oversights without trying to shield corporate heads.
- Fixing Utility Accountability: Echoing public anger, the CPI(M) delegation asserted that regulatory bodies must penalize the natural gas distribution enterprise if standard pressure checks and pipeline maintenance protocols were actively bypassed.
The opposition core group concluded the inspection by warning that they would launch democratic floor-tests and neighborhood-level safety awareness movements if the final inquiry report fails to hold the high-ranking supervisors of the gas supply chain legally accountable within the stipulated seven-day deadline.
