AGARTALA: In a major push to overhaul emergency healthcare and elevate patient services at the state’s premier referral hospital, the Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital administration has initiated swift corrective measures. Following a surprise inspection by Chief Minister and Health Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, the hospital authorities have moved rapidly to address operational gaps, culminating in the decision to officially reactivate the highly essential “Triage Area” facility at the Trauma Care Centre.
The triage service, which was previously suspended due to staffing shortages, is designed to categorize arriving emergency patients based on the severity of their conditions, ensuring that critical cases receive immediate, life-saving medical attention.
Addressing a press conference, GBP Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Bidhan Goswami revealed that a high-level joint review meeting was convened with officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) Medical Division, senior administrators of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), and hospital authorities to execute the Chief Minister’s directives.
Key Decisions & Infrastructure Upgrades:
- Reactivation of the Triage Area: The Trauma Care Centre will immediately resume triage protocols to streamline patient classification (red, yellow, and green zones) and minimize delay in emergency treatment.
- Fast-Track Repairs: Despite delays caused by heavy monsoon rains, the PWD has been directed to immediately repair damaged furniture, arrest ceiling water leakages, fix non-functional wash basins, and complete unfinished painting across wards.
- Patient & Attendant Comfort: Dedicated seating arrangements and clean drinking water facilities are being set up for patient attendants. Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr. Bikash Debbarma and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Bishnu Goswami have been tasked with overseeing these services.
- Enhanced Security Measures: To tackle recent incidents of theft resulting from inadequate CCTV coverage, the hospital is working closely with local police. Plain-clothes security personnel have been deployed to patrol the premises, leading to the apprehension of nearly ten suspects over the last two months.
”Our ultimate goal is to make GBP Hospital a deeply reliable and efficient healthcare institution for the people of Tripura. Following the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s feedback, we have identified every major bottleneck. Reactivating the Triage Area at the Trauma Care Centre will significantly improve our response time for critical patients and make emergency interventions far more effective,” stated Medical Superintendent Dr. Bidhan Goswami.
