Tripura’s main referral hospital, GB Pant Hospital, is set to undergo a major transformation through a new partnership with AIIMS Delhi. Chief Minister Manik Saha will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AIIMS Delhi on October 15 in New Delhi, solidifying the agreement to upgrade GB Pant Hospital to AIIMS standards over the next three years.
Health Secretary Kiran Gitte highlighted the comprehensive nature of the partnership, stating that AIIMS Delhi will assist in both medical and non-medical aspects of the hospital. This collaboration will involve training opportunities for staff members, as well as the exchange of doctors between the two institutions.
One of the key goals of this partnership is to reduce the number of referral cases from Tripura, with a significant decline already noted in recent years. Gitte expressed optimism that this trend will continue, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that patients feel confident in the hospital’s ability to provide quality care.
In addition to enhancing GB Pant Hospital, the Tripura government is focused on expanding medical education and healthcare infrastructure in the state to address human resource needs. With the establishment of more medical colleges and degree courses in the health sector, the government aims to ensure a steady supply of trained professionals to meet the growing demand for healthcare services.
GB Pant Hospital, which currently boasts over 1,400 beds, has seen a series of development projects in recent years. Plans for the future include the construction of a mother and child care wing, a critical care block, a communicable diseases block, and a new administrative block for Agartala Government Medical College.
Gitte also highlighted the state government’s commitment to providing substantial budgetary support for GB Pant Hospital, with over Rs. 600 crores allocated annually. With these investments and partnerships in place, Tripura is on track to further elevate the reputation and capabilities of GB Pant Hospital in the years to come.
