AGARTALA | July 3, 2026: In a major development for the healthcare infrastructure of the state capital, the upcoming Agartala Civil Hospital—located at the old AMC office premises in the Kasari Patti (Kansari Patti) area near Jackson Gate—is all set to be operationalized shortly. To ensure seamless execution, Health Secretary Shri Kiran Gitte, IAS, along with Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Shri Dipak Majumder and senior administrative officials, conducted a joint high-level field inspection to check the absolute final layout arrangements.
The high-priority project, backed by the state government, aims to function as a 50-bed fully digital facility designed to significantly de-congest the heavy patient volumes at nearby referral centers like the AGMC GBP Hospital and IGM Hospital.
A Dedicated Civic Infrastructure for Primary and Secondary Care
Spanning an expansive layout built to meet modern clinical standards, the newly constructed Agartala Civil Hospital will fall directly under the maintenance and operational jurisdiction of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). The facility will offer essential medical diagnostics, Outpatient Departments (OPD), and Inpatient Departments (IPD) structured into a specialized two-shift service system to maximize accessibility and reduce waiting times for citizens.
During the extensive site review, the top delegation inspected the emergency wards, laboratory rooms, pharmacy counters, and digital registration terminals, instructing the project engineers to expedite the final polishing work.
”The operationalization of the Agartala Civil Hospital marks a momentous shift in the urban healthcare model of our state. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, our focus is to redirect primary and secondary clinical treatments here, keeping premier facilities like GBP Hospital reserved for core super-specialty interventions. The AMC is taking up this operational responsibility with utmost seriousness. This 50-bed digital setup will provide continuous, high-grade treatment to city residents right in the heart of Agartala,” Mayor Dipak Majumder stated during the inspection.
Key Operational Milestones Outlined by the Delegation
Following the inspection of the Kasari Patti facility, the health directorate and civic chiefs highlighted several key operational parameters being fast-tracked for the launch:
- Two-Shift Medical Framework: The civil hospital will function using an innovative two-shift doctor framework to handle outpatient influxes effectively through morning and evening rosters.
- Medical Manpower Deployment: To ensure immediate operational capability, a section of the state’s recently recruited medical officers will be stationed permanently at this municipal unit.
- Paperless Digital Management: Setting up synchronized digital health ID trackers and electronic token management systems to establish a completely hassle-free patient check-in workflow.
The Health Secretary expressed satisfaction with the progress of the infrastructure installation, stating that the civil hospital’s grand opening next month will dramatically cut down localized patient queues and reinforce the state’s healthcare safety parameters.
