AGARTALA | July 3, 2026: Intensifying its democratic movement for indigenous rights and socio-economic development, the Tribal Youth Federation (TYF) Central Committee today staged a massive three-hour mass sit-in (Gana-Abhashan) program in the high-security zone adjacent to the Agartala Circuit House.
The demonstration was headed by TYF General Secretary Kumud Debbarma, alongside senior tribal youth leaders and hundreds of delegates representing various sub-divisional committees across the state.
Raising a Voice Against Grassroots Loopholes
The agitation area witnessed spirited slogans demanding structural empowerment for the state’s tribal population, particularly within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) segments. The TYF leadership sharply criticized the institutional delay in filling up vacant backlogs in government departments reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and highlighted the growing livelihood distress in the hilly interiors.
Addressing the massive gathering, TYF General Secretary Kumud Debbarma asserted that the youth wing will not allow the fundamental rights of indigenous communities to be compromised by bureaucratic delays.
”Our three-hour mass sit-in today near the Circuit House is a direct warning to the administration. We have assembled here with a crucial 7-point charter of demands that directly impacts the survival, employment, and linguistic identity of our indigenous youth. From regularizing institutional funding for the ADC areas to fast-tracking the recruitment of tribal educators, the government’s current pace is highly disappointing. If these seven core demands are not acknowledged by the appropriate directorates within a realistic timeframe, this three-hour symbolic sit-in will transform into an indefinite state-level blockade,” TYF General Secretary Kumud Debbarma stated to reporters at the protest venue.
Core Highlights of the 7-Point Charter of Demands
Following the intense three-hour blockade, a select organizational delegation moved forward to submit their formal memorandum addressed to the state authorities, highlighting the following key demands:
- Filling Up ST Vacancy Backlogs: Immediate initiation of a special recruitment drive to clear all long-pending Scheduled Tribe (ST) backlog posts across various state government departments.
- Empowering the TTAADC: Direct devolution of adequate administrative powers and unconditional financial funds to the TTAADC to execute essential developmental projects in the hills.
- Kokborok Script and Language Development: Implementing robust academic infrastructure for the Kokborok language, including the recruitment of specialized language teachers in all government schools and colleges.
- Rural Employment Saturation: Streamlining the allocation of daily wage labor under rural employment guarantee schemes to check the seasonal out-migration of tribal youths.
The district administration accepted the memorandum on behalf of the government and assured the TYF council that the 7-point charter would be forwarded to the competent higher authorities for strategic evaluation.
