AGARTALA: Raising a powerful voice against the rising tide of crimes targeting women and demanding swift legal intervention, the Tripura State Committee of the All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangathan (AIMSS) organized a massive demonstration in Agartala today. The protest rally drew hundreds of women, social activists, and civil society members who marched through the capital city to challenge administrative lapses and demand stronger systemic protection for women.
The highly charged demonstration focused on a comprehensive charter of demands aimed at ensuring absolute security, immediate legal action, and a fear-free environment for women across the state and the country.
Core Demands of the AIMSS Demonstration:
- Suo Motu Judicial Case Registration: The judiciary and law enforcement must take immediate, proactive (suo motu) cognizance of crimes, harassment, and violence targeting women, initiating fast-track legal proceedings without waiting for formal family-led complaints.
- Fast-Track Court Execution: Establishing dedicated fast-track courts in every district of the state to ensure the speedy trial and conviction of offenders involved in rape, physical abuse, and trafficking.
- Curbing the Objectification of Women: Implementing strict legal measures against the commercial objectification and derogatory portrayal of women in media, advertisements, and digital spaces.
- Liquor and Drug Menace Control: A complete administrative crackdown on illegal liquor sales and drug trafficking, which the organization highlighted as the primary triggers behind domestic violence and public harassment.
The protest rally, which moved through key administrative hubs of Agartala, eventually culminated in a mass gathering. Addressing the participants, leading organizers of the AIMSS State Committee stated that structural delays and a lack of immediate police action often discourage victims from seeking justice.
”We cannot tolerate a system where victims are forced to run from pillar to post just to get a case registered. The judiciary and police must act proactively. When a crime against a woman occurs, the state must take suo motu charge to register the case immediately. We demand fast-track trials, absolute security on our streets, and a complete ban on the drug and alcohol culture that fuels these heinous crimes,” a senior AIMSS leader stated during the rally.
Following the protest, a formal memorandum detailing their demands was submitted by an AIMSS delegation to the state administration and judicial authorities, urging immediate policy reforms and heightened vigilance.
