AGARTALA: Raising a strong pitch over the worsening condition of roads and highways across the state, the All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation—a joint forum of transport workers—submitted a formal deputation to the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) today.
A delegation of senior transport union leaders met with the Chief Engineer at the PWD headquarters to highlight the severe distress faced by drivers, passengers, and vehicle owners due to poorly maintained road infrastructure.
Speaking to the media, prominent trade union leader Amal Chakraborty stated that the dilapidated condition of several key roads and National Highways in Tripura has made driving hazardous, leading to frequent accidents, vehicle damage, and prolonged traffic disruptions.
”The transport workers are the worst sufferers of this administrative apathy. Broken roads are not only causing physical ailments to drivers but are also driving up vehicle maintenance costs significantly. We have demanded immediate, high-quality repairs and regular maintenance of all major transit routes. If the PWD fails to initiate prompt action, the transport community will be forced to launch a larger, state-wide movement,” Amal Chakraborty warned.
