Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has outlined the state government’s commitment to improving the education sector and addressing the Dearness Allowance (DA) gap between state and central government employees. Speaking at a state-level Teachers’ Day program, Saha emphasized the importance of quality education and announced various initiatives to enhance the state’s educational infrastructure.
Saha revealed that the state government has hired 19,800 employees over the past seven years, including 5,215 teachers, in an effort to ensure quality education in government schools. He also acknowledged the discrepancy in DA rates between state and central government employees, with state employees currently receiving 33 percent DA compared to 55 percent for their central counterparts. Saha stated that he has already released 29 percent DA during his tenure as chief minister and is actively working to bridge the gap.
In line with the government’s vision to establish Tripura as an educational hub, Saha announced plans to upgrade a women’s college to a state university and establish three new general degree colleges in Ambassa, Karbook, and Kakraban. Additionally, the number of MBBS seats in the state is set to increase from 400 to 500, with the Health and Family Welfare Department overseeing the expansion. Currently, Tripura boasts three medical colleges offering 400 MBBS seats.
Furthermore, Saha addressed service matters, stating that the government is exploring ways to regularize ad-hoc promotions for officials and employees. He indicated that discussions with legal experts are ongoing, and a positive outcome is expected soon.
Overall, the Tripura government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha, is dedicated to improving the education sector, reducing the DA gap, and enhancing the overall well-being of its employees and citizens.
